The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School

Pout-Pout Fish is scared of his first day of school. He is nervous that he isn’t smart enough to go. He does repeat that a few times in the book. I think many children have the same fears, so I was okay explaining it and talking through those feelings. At the end of the book, the teacher explains to Pout-Pout fish that he is smart and he can do it. It’s a great message at the end. We have to work through our fears and be the best ‘fish’ we can be.

All children will encounter bullies at some point. It’s good to expose them to books and have discussions about how to handle bullies.
