Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I love this time of year. Chilly weather, hot chocolate, fires, friends and family. It’s wonderful. As with every season and holiday, I love to read as much as possible. I’ve put together a list of our absolute favorite Christmas books for you that are 100% kid-approved.

This book always brings me back to my childhood. A little boy lies still in his bed trying to hear the bells on Santa’s sleigh. Instead, he hears a train. I boards the Polar Express on a grand adventure to the North Pole.

Little Blue Truck’s Christmas

Little Blue Truck is delivering Christmas trees to all of his animal friends. This is a fun rhyming book that keeps children engaged and gets them counting.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Every Who in Who-ville loves Christmas…except for the Grinch. He’s determined to stop Christmas from coming, but how? I read this book so much as a child and I love the movie with Jim Carrey. It’s such a fun rhyming book and it shows that Christmas can grow in the hearts of all.

Bear Stays Up for Christmas

Bear’s friends help him stay up for Christmas. He gets to experience all of the wonderful things of the holiday.

Sneezy the Snowman

Sneezy the Snowman is Cold! Every time he tries to warm up, he melts! Don’t worry, the kids help rebuild him every time. This is a fun and silly rhyming book for the season.

Snowmen at Christmas

This is one of my favorite Christmas books. I love the story and the amazing illustrations. When we’re all asleep, snowmen come to life and have fun in the town.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Everyone is feeling the holiday spirit except for Charlie Brown. His friends try to help him find the meaning of Christmas.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

This is a Christmas classic! I love the updates to remove Santa’s pipe from the story. The pictures and rhyming and adorable. One of our favorites for the holiday!

The Berenstain Bears and the Joy of Giving

Brother and Sister Bear are in their Sunday School Christmas Eve Pageant. They learn a valuable lesson about the meaning of Christmas and what giving means. This is a great read with some good elements. It does have a Christian religion focus.

Llama Llama Jingle Bells

This is a cute board book for younger kids. It’s all about the joys of the holiday.

How to Catch an Elf

This is an adorable rhyming book about trying to catch an elf. Santa is fast and hard to catch, so this year kids will try to catch the elf. Can they do it?!

The Littlest Elf

Oliver is a little elf who tries to find what he is good at during Christmas. Can he work in the toy shop, the bike shop, or the bakery? Or will it be too hard? He’s on a mission to find his place this Christmas. Oliver meets a reindeer named Dot and they help each other. This is such a great book and I love the moral of the story that you’re never too little to find your place.

Merry Christmas Mom and Dad

This is a cute Little Critter book for the holidays. Little Critter tries to help get things ready for Christmas. He keeps running into problems with what he does, as young kids sometimes do. This provides great opportunities to talk about how Little Critter tried his best and what he could do in the future to make it easier.

The Biggest Christmas Tree Ever

Clayton and Desmond are on a mission to find the biggest Christmas tree ever! They are excited to decorate it for their families, but soon realize it can be enjoyed by all. This was a fun read with cute pictures.

Merry Christmas, Stinky Face

This is such an adorable story with amazing illustrations. The little boy has many questions for his mama about what could go wrong this Christmas. She has very imaginative answers about how to make it right. A story we read over and over.
